Gethsemane - a poem by Chris Zachariou

My love for The Son of Man and Christianity as a way of life is infinite, however, I find it impossible to believe in a metaphysical world.

This poem is my own personal view of God, Jesus, and Judas. Please do not continue reading if you are easily offended or intolerant of other peoples' views.

This poem is largely inspired by the novel 'The Last Temptation of Christ' by Nikos Kazantzakis.

Jesus and Judas in Gethsemane
Jesus and Judas in Gethsemane

All my life I searched for you
and now you are here Lord.

When you talk I hear birds sing
I hear the whispers of the Sea of Galilee
and I see a rose in white bloom waiting
for her bridegroom at the gates of Heaven.

The smile of May - a poem by Chris Zachariou

A beautiful French girl

today
she has the sadness of
November in her eyes

tomorrow
she will have the smile of May
and the world will be more beautiful

Looking for Snow White - a poem by Chris Zachariou

Snow White with an apple, a symbol of awakening sexuality, Part of the series “A Coming-of-Age Poem.”
The Awakening of Snow White
Reflections of my lover
dancing on the frozen lake
echoed every night on the
walls of the grey scullery.

The Ice Queen watched
each pirouette and veil cast
until enraged by the neon sunshine
stood and speared the screen twice.

Istanbul - a poem by Chris Zachariou

An image of Istanbul's skyline, embodying the essence of “Byzantine Tales” through its architectural blend of East and West.
Istanbul's Skyline

Once you begged for absolution
but now you straddle seven hills.

Frenzied red Arabian horses
swirl at your open gates

your porcelain-white limbs
are kissed by the broken moon
and you fastened your sainthood
to the bottom of the sea.

The poet's song - a poem by Chris Zachariou

A couple, bathed in candlelight, succumbs to the shadows of Toxic Love, leaving them broken and despondent.
Romantic Disillusion

My sweetest lover, daydreaming
in the shade of an old aspen tree—
a green world of wondrous madness.

She, the purple gateway to a citadel
of sin and I the Mississippi River
raging between the marble pillars.

Icarus must die - a poem by Chris Zachariou

Icarus by Henri Matisse
Icarus by Henry Matisse

Icarus has flown too high
he has eclipsed the stars.

The Sun-God has decreed
the youth must die.
