The Tallest Bridge in the World - a poem by Chris Zachariou

the tallest bridge in the whole world.

Made of white marzipan
—beautiful, mouth-watering marzipan—
it stands in the waters of the river
on giant stilts of fruit and cake.

Sappho in love - a poem by Chris Zachariou

Sappho - One of the greatest poets of the ancient world
Sappho
She came into my world
on jasmine scented wings
and I was beguiled by love

the speechless shy kind
that hides in a blushing lily
only to reveal itself at midnight.

The poet's lament - a poem by Chris Zachariou

A couple embracing passionately in the river. A surreal poem in the series Mosaics by the Cyprus poet Chris Zachariou.
An Embrace in Societal Reflections

The poets gather at the well
of broken stanzas to mourn
for all the rhymes stolen by men
in white suits and loaded guns.

The horrific deaths of migratory birds in Cyprus
The horrific death of migratory birds in Cyprus

Sweet songbird of Saranti
look at the purples in the hills
see the vines on their slopes
with red and white grapes.

Winter tales - a poem by Chris Zachariou

An icy North Wind sailing
on green and purple seas
whips and mauls the land.

The frozen peaks
of the Anatolian Mountains
tower in the distance
and the Moor is howling
in the Devil's Sea.

The story of the laughing son - a poem by Chris Zachariou

with his open casket
on their stooping shoulders
the frozen mourners shiver
and stumble in the mud.

The lilac march rises
in the sombre streets
and a eulogy draped in black
weeps silently in the censer.

Poets in love - a poem by Chris Zachariou

Embracing in the mud, two young lovers navigate the raw depths of passion | A Coming-of-Age Poem by Chris Zachariou
Lovers Embracing in the Mud

The poet with unbridled thoughts
and the scent of fledgling sparrows
   on her lips
rides bareback to the river
on the preacher's scarlet mule.

Baring her teeth, she hunts
the piety of the mosquito hunter
until her quarry whimpers
